A stag group in the wood-fired sauna and bar at Balta Chill, near Tunbridge Wells

Where it fits

Three good ways to do it.

Balta works at the front of the day, the morning after, or as the whole thing.

A group in the sauna

Start the day here

Probably the best option if you’ve got a big night planned.

Have a sauna, get everyone together, grab a drink afterwards, then head into Tunbridge Wells for dinner and whatever comes next.

Everyone leaves feeling like the day has actually started, rather than spending three hours waiting for the pub.

Coffee at the bar

Come the next morning

If the night before was the main event, Balta makes a good plan for the following morning.

Coffee, sauna, a cool-down and somewhere to sit around while everyone gradually comes back to life.

It isn’t a hangover cure, and everyone needs to be sober and feeling well enough to sauna. But it’s a much nicer morning than twelve people sitting around waiting for checkout.

Drinks at the bar

Make Balta the evening

Not every stag needs to end at 2am.

Book three hours, move between the saunas and plunges, have a couple of beers and actually spend some time together.

For the right group, that’s enough.

Private hire

Have the Sauna Hub to yourselves.

Most stag groups hire the whole Sauna Hub.

That gives you both wood-fired saunas and both cold plunges exclusively for your group. The bar remains open to other guests.

Up to 30 peopleWith 22 able to sit in the saunas at once.

An important bit

Fun, yes. Chaos, no.

Balta is a sauna hub and bar, not a party venue.

We have neighbours, other businesses operating on the site and, depending on your booking, other customers using the bar.

A few beers and a good laugh are absolutely fine. Shouting, rowdy behaviour and getting smashed aren’t really what the place is for.

And there’s one rule with no grey area:

If someone arrives drunk, they won’t be allowed to use the sauna or cold plunge. The same applies if someone becomes too intoxicated while they’re here.

If a heavy night is part of the plan, book Balta before it, or come the following day once everyone is sober and feeling up to it.

Stag do FAQs

A few things worth knowing.

Is Balta good for a stag do?

If you want somewhere for the group to actually spend time together, yes. It works particularly well at the start of a stag day, as a calmer evening activity, or the following morning after a night out.

Can we drink?

Yes. We have a licensed bar serving beer, wine, low- and no-alcohol drinks, soft drinks and coffee. But sauna and heavy drinking don’t mix. Anyone who arrives drunk will not be allowed to use the sauna or cold plunge.

Can we come hungover?

You can book the morning after a night out, but everyone needs to be sober and feeling well enough to sauna. Anyone who is still drunk, unwell or badly dehydrated should sit the sauna out.

Is the place private?

With Sauna Hub hire, both saunas and both cold plunges are reserved exclusively for your group. The bar remains open to other guests. If you want the entire venue to yourselves as well, ask us about whole-venue hire.

How many people can you take?

The Sauna Hub works for groups of up to 30, with 22 able to sit across the two saunas at once. Groups of up to eight can hire one private sauna instead.

How long should we book?

90 minutes if Balta is the warm-up to a bigger day. Three hours if you want time for several sauna rounds, cold plunges, drinks and a proper sit around together.

Can we get food?

There’s no kitchen at Balta. If you’re heading out afterwards, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding villages have plenty of options.

What should we bring?

Swimwear, a towel and flip-flops or sliders.
