Get hot, get cold, get a drink.

SAUNAS

Two wood-fired saunas, reaching up to 85°C. One social, one silent. Space for 22 people across both, with windows looking out over the fields.

COLD PLUNGES

One kept at 8°C, the other ambient. Sixty seconds in, then back to the heat. Use it between sauna rounds or simply when you need to cool down.

BAR & CAFÉ

Beer from local breweries, wine, low- and no-alcohol drinks, plus coffee from the morning. Open Thursday to Sunday. No sauna booking needed.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring four things.

Book a session
  1. TowelsBring two if possible: one to sit on and one to dry off with. The benches are made from low-density alder, but they can still get hot. Towels aren't provided.
  2. FootwearBring sliders, flip-flops or anything you don't mind getting wet. The saunas are a short walk from the changing rooms and bar, and you'll make the trip a few times.
  3. SwimwearAll sessions are mixed-gender, and swimwear is required. Trunks, bikinis and one-pieces are all fine.
  4. VibesBring a friendly mind. The atmosphere comes from the people in it, so be kind, make room for others and let everyone enjoy the sauna in their own way.

The bar and cafe

Just come for a drink.

The bar and cafe are open Thursday to Sunday, whether you're using the sauna or not. Drop in for coffee, a post-walk drink or a catch-up. No booking needed.

Rachel and Billy, the founders of Balta Chill

Our story

We didn't invent this. Estonia did.

We're Rachel and Billy. We lived in Estonia for a couple of years, and that's where we got into saunas properly. Over there it isn't a treatment or a big occasion - it's just where people go to see each other. Friends, family, people from work. You sit for a few hours and don't do much.

We came back, went looking for the same thing, and couldn't find it. So we've built it here, in an old farm workshop outside Tunbridge Wells.
