Your visit
What happens when you get here.
- 01Park up
Follow the Balta Chill signs from the road. The turning is easy to miss, so slow down when you think you’re getting close. Parking is free.
- 02Check in
We’ll check your booking and waiver, answer anything you’re unsure about, and show you around if it’s your first time.
- 03Get changed
There’s a warm indoor changing area. Lockers and locks are provided, or you can leave valuables in your car.
- 04Sauna
Move between the saunas, cold plunges and rest space at your own pace. There’s no set order and you definitely don’t have to plunge.
- 05When you’re done
We’ll give you a shout when your session ends. Get changed, warm up, and stay for a drink if you fancy it.
What you need to bring
- SwimwearCommunity sessions are mixed gender unless we say otherwise, so swimwear is required.
- TowelBring one to dry yourself off. A second towel to sit on helps us keep the sauna benches nice, but we know two towels is a bit of a faff, so it isn’t compulsory.
- Flip-flops or slidersYou’ll be walking a short distance outside between the changing room and saunas, so bring something easy to slip on.
- Water bottleThere’s free drinking water in the bar and Sauna Hub.
- Dry robe or gownNot essential, but very nice to have if you want to sit around with a drink between sauna rounds.
Included in your ticket
- Two wood-fired saunasBoth are yours to move between throughout your session.
- Two cold plungesOne chilled to around 7-9°C. The other left ambient.
- Cold showersFor rinsing off, cooling down or washing off at the end.
- Indoor changingSomewhere warm and dry to get changed.
- The barYou’re welcome to use the bar before, during and after your session.
Balta Chill etiquette
How we do things here.
Mostly: be considerate, take your time and don’t feel like you have anything to prove.
Mixed sessions
Community sessions are mixed unless they’re clearly marked otherwise when you book.
Chatty or quiet - both are fine
One of our saunas is more social and one is generally quieter. You don’t have to make conversation, and you don’t have to sit in complete silence either.
Phones stay outside the sauna
Keep phones out of the saunas, and be considerate with them around the changing rooms and Sauna Hub.
Cold plunging is optional
Cool down however you like, then head back into the sauna when you’re ready.
Come and go
Move between the saunas, plunges, rest areas & bar as much as you like during your session.
Wood-fired heat varies
That’s part of the fun. Sit lower if you want it cooler, take breaks whenever you need them, and get out when you’ve had enough.
Accessibility
If you have any access requirements, email us before booking. We can talk you through the site, changing facilities and route to the saunas so you know exactly what to expect.
Is sauna suitable for everyone?
Everyone completes a health declaration before their session. Don’t use the sauna or cold plunge if you’ve been advised against heat or cold exposure, you feel unwell, you’re intoxicated, or you have a medical concern that needs professional advice. You can read our full Health & Safety Policy before booking.
How old do you have to be?
Community sauna sessions have a minimum age of 16. For private hire of the full Sauna Hub or the whole venue, the minimum age is 10.
Can I eat and drink?
Yes. The bar and café are there for exactly that. We’d avoid a big meal immediately before sauna, and go easy on alcohol around your session. If someone is intoxicated, we won’t let them use the sauna or cold plunge.
Can I just come to the bar?
Yep. You don’t need to book a sauna session to come in for a coffee or drink while the bar and café are open.
Do you take walk-ins?
We’ll accept walk-ins wherever possible - but booking ahead is the safest bet, particularly at busy times.
What if it rains?
There’s nothing better than getting hot in a sauna, then sitting in the rain! We have some cover in the Sauna Hub, but you’re welcome to sit in the bar between saunas if you want somewhere dry to relax or chat. If the weather ever makes the site unsafe, we’ll contact everyone who’s booked.
What if I’m late?
You can still join your session, but it will still finish at the original time - so you’ll have slightly less sauna time.
How many people are in a session?
We cap community sessions at 15 people. The two saunas can physically seat 22 between them, so there’s plenty of room to move between them rather than everyone trying to squeeze into the same sauna.
Can I book as a group?
Absolutely. You can book several spaces on a normal community session, or hire the place privately for birthdays, teams and bigger groups.
Do you have lockers?
Yes. Lockers and locks are provided in the changing area.
That’s about it.
