What’s here
The useful bits.
- Two wood-fired saunasHele Saun is light and social, with room for 10. Tume Saun is dark and quiet, with room for 12. Both are wood-fired and built by us.
- Two cold plungesOne is chilled to around 8-9°C. The other is left ambient, usually somewhere around 19°C. There are cold showers too.
- Indoor changingWarm changing rooms, lockers with locks, a hair dryer and two unisex toilets.
- The barLocal beer, wine, low- and no-alcohol drinks, soft drinks and coffee. During Sauna Hub hire the bar stays open to everyone else. If you hire the whole venue, it’s yours too.
- Somewhere to sitIndoor seating for around 30 people. For whole-venue bookings, use the space for food, a talk, a toast, or simply somewhere to sit between sauna rounds.
- Parking & bikesFree parking on site and indoor bike storage. Wadhurst station is about five minutes away by taxi.
Prices
How the pricing works.
Off-peak is Monday to Friday, for a session starting at or before 5pm. From 5.30pm, plus all day Saturday and Sunday, is peak. Full-day hire runs Thursday to Sunday.
One sauna
One wood-fired sauna exclusively for your group. The other sauna, cold plunges, changing rooms and bar stay open as normal.
Sauna Hub - 90 minutes
Both saunas and both plunges exclusively for your group. The bar stays open to everyone else.
Sauna Hub - 3 hours
The same, with more time to sauna, plunge, sit around and go back in.
Whole venue - half day
The whole of Balta to yourselves, 9am-3pm or 4pm-10pm.
Whole venue - full day
The whole place, from morning until evening, 9am-10pm. Full days run Thursday to Sunday - we are not open for a full day Monday to Wednesday.
All private-hire prices include VAT. Deposit, minimum hire and cancellation terms are confirmed when you enquire.

The practical bits
A few things worth knowing.
- Holding the date
- A deposit secures your booking. We will confirm when the balance is due when you enquire.
- Numbers
- You do not need final numbers straight away. Give us a rough idea when you enquire and confirm the final headcount a week before. One sauna takes up to 8 people, the Sauna Hub up to 30, and the whole venue up to 50.
- Swimwear
- For private groups, it is up to you whether you wear swimwear inside the sauna, as long as everyone in the group is comfortable with it. Swimwear stays on in the plunges, changing rooms and bar.
- Decorations
- Bunting, banners and table decorations are welcome. Confetti and glitter are not - they have an impressive ability to end up in the plunges.
- Drinks
- The bar can be open throughout your booking. All alcohol needs to come from us, so please do not bring your own. We are careful with alcohol around sauna and cold water, and anyone who arrives drunk will not be allowed to use the sauna or plunge.
- Food
- There is no kitchen at Balta. If you hire the whole venue, you are welcome to bring in an outside caterer.
- Age & health
- Everyone using the sauna or plunge completes a short health declaration. Community sessions are 16+. For private Sauna Hub and whole-venue bookings, the current minimum age is 10.
- Cancellations
- We will send over the cancellation and rescheduling terms before you pay anything.
Private hire FAQs
A few things people usually ask.
What’s the difference between one sauna, the Sauna Hub and the whole venue?
With one sauna, that sauna is private but everything else stays communal. With the Sauna Hub, both saunas and both plunges are private, while the bar stays open to everyone else. With whole-venue hire, the entire site is yours.
How many people can you take?
One private sauna takes up to 8. The Sauna Hub takes up to 30, with 22 able to sit across the two saunas at once. Whole-venue hire is available for up to 50 people.
Can we hire just one sauna?
Yes. It’s £140 per hour and works well for groups of up to eight.
Is the bar included?
The bar is there whichever option you book. For one-sauna and Sauna Hub bookings it remains open to other customers. With whole-venue hire, it’s part of your private booking.
Do you provide towels?
No, so bring one to dry yourself and, if you can, another to sit on in the sauna. Towels are also available to buy at the bar if someone forgets.
Can we bring food?
For whole-venue bookings, yes. There’s no kitchen here, but you can bring in a caterer.
